I installed a Dynatech DSPT-1 ignition along with NHRS 1250 kit on my 2004 xl883. Now having problems. The speedometer and tach will go to zero, miles display reads "bus er" and the check engine and key leds light up. These things all go back to normal after shutting the engine down.
The self cancel on my turn signals has quit working, and this does not return to normal after shutting the engine down. The turn signals will continue to run even after I turn the key off now.
Also sometimes both turn signals will flash 3-5 times after I start the engine.
I think all of this stuff is related to the new ignition, but I can't find any troubleshooting information. Can you help me out?
Thanks

"Bus er" indicates there is no or faulty communications on the data buss wire.
Did the Dynatech module ever work correctly or is this a new problem that happened with the Dynatech installation?
After turning on the ignition switch, are you waiting 10 seconds before starting the motor? The Dynatech unit requires that wait period to initialize everything, kind of like waiting for a computer to boot.
Do you have any stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes? See the Sticky at the top of this section if you don't know how to check that.
I have all sorts of error codes:
S:
B1141
U1301
U1016
U1097
Gave me Pn 68920-01C
SP:
B1006
B1007
U1301
U1255
Pn 67037-04
T:
B1006
B1007
U1301
Pn 68941-04
This is a new problem. I went about 1500 miles on the new ignition before this popped up. I cleared the codes, and will check them when I get home from work this morning.
If waiting the 10 seconds doesn't fix the problem, try reinstalling your original ICM and see if everything works. If it does, then I'd send the Dynatech back for warranty replacement/repair.
After clearing the codes, and waiting the 10 seconds at start up, Everything worked. No bus error, the turn signals self canceled. It was all good.
Checked the error codes, and in the SP I got b1006 (Accessory line overvoltage instruments) and b1007 (Ignition Line overvoltage instruments). The others stayed cleared.
How serious do you figure those codes to be? Worth swapping ignitions and sending the Dyna back? Could it be something else that causes those codes?
I cleared them again, and will check if they stay cleared when I get to work.
