Has the 1000 mile service been done yet? This is also the time when all the little issues get hashed out.
As for finding neutral? Don't you just hate that? I find it more of a pain when the bike it hot. That bastard just wants to keep slipping into 2nd. Sometimes at a light I know is long I'll go into neutral to give my clutch hand a rest. I'll miss the damn thing and if I eventually find neutral it's time to click into 1st. Lmao The stupid thing is, it doesn't happen all the time. Only when I want it to. You know, kind of like when your spouse decides it's time to ask an "urgent" question during the 9th inning of a tied game. And she needs the answer NOW!
If finding neutral is harder when it's hot, then you likely have a clutch adjustment problem. It's harder to find because the clutch is dragging and the potential to drag increases as it gets hotter.
Try decreasing the amount you "back-off" the derby screw from the snug point.
I gave up on finding neutral when mine is running. Funny, but it's been years since I even thought about it until I read this thread.
On our bikes it is MUCH easier to find neutral if the bike is still moving a bit. Try to get it into neutral before you are at a dead stop. My girl could never, ever find neutral until she started doing this.

I don't usually want to be in neutral before I stop. I want the option to have a quick out if I need it. Especially approaching an intersection with a stop sign or red light. I pull my clutch in while apporaching a stop and down shifting. This way if I need to make a quick getaway I can just release the clutch and go. That extra 1/10 of a second you need to throw it into gear could make all the difference.
I would just like to say that if your bike finds neutral easy, you are not driving a Sportster.
Mine must be the exception to this rule then lol.. but I usually shift to neutral as I'm slowing down, right before stopping.. haven't had any issues finding neutral
Are you new to riding? When I first started, I frequently landed in neutral when shifting up. You learn over time to give it a little more effort for going to second.
My bike has about 3500 miles on it and just started doing this about 200 miles ago. going to dealer in tommorow and have clutch adjusted.

If your bike weren't already under warranty I'd say to try and adjust it yourself. All you need is YouTube.
