We recommend the X14iED for general use on all Sportsters. This provides the best all around performance.
For Riders that want to experiment with fuel mixtures, the VIED allows a range of fuel mixtures from 14.3 to 13.7:1. This is our recommend alternative to the X14ED. It gives you the chance to try the 14.0:1 and 13.8:1 AFR's, making the final setting based on your riding style.
For Riders with a Bar Hopper riding style (in town), the XiED can be used. Its slightly richer fuel mixture than the X14iED is well suited for in-town riding, but not high RPM, high speed riding.
Contrary to popular belief, richer is not alway better, only richer. For normal cruising in closed loop, there is a diminishing return as the fuel ratio gets richer than 14.2:1. The X14iED is set at 14.0:1 which as proven to be an excellent all around fuel mixture, especially when taking into account the adaptive nature of the HD Delphi ECM.
EXCELLENT info! Man you are making me want to hock something so i can get a set LOL. Bike runs so crappy i dont even want to ride. I long for my old bike, 89 1200 carbed. Id even be willing to put up with the 2 sets of fouled plugs every 3 days or so and clean them rather than ride this bike that seems to want to either stall, or keep high Rpm's at stops. Real unpleasent ride right now until i can get a fix. The heat off the motor is extreme. I HATE lean bikes.
I just want to point out something that everyone is not saying here. If you plan on doing more to your bike like cams or internal work or a 1250 kit than a real tuner will be worth the money. If you are just going with a stage 1, then what everyone else is saying will be fine. If you do plan to keep upgrading look into a thundrmax autotune, no dyno needed and will always adjust to what you add. Plus you can set things like rev limits and spark rate if you ever change your cams out.
Believe me, id love to. Just want it to run right for a season or year so i actually want to upgrade something on it lol. Putting 5-6k on it this summer would be even better, but not the way this thing runs. Dealer says its normal, i say its not, and sure cant go around paying to get other opinions. Gonna save for the Xers so it will atleast run good. This is my first EFI bike and i got to say, Id rather take an hour rejeting and useing a home made carb sync rather than dealing with this.

Yeah, lean is normal on the EFI bikes, but it is NOT right. They gotta do it for the EPA.
Your's sounds even leaner than factory though...have you checked for intake & exhaust leaks...either one can make the bike run even leaner than factory.
Hey Ironman,
Look, I just went through where you are at now. IF you plan in the near future to tinker with your bike in order to have it run like a dyno tuned God, then many others have good advice about the product to buy.
If you want your bike to run Good with the two mods you have done (a/c, exhaust), then do not believe that the Stage 1 Harley Davidson download is not worth the money BECAUSE IT IS worth the money, 150.00 and your bike is now tuned for what you have put on.
I have x14ieds that was on my stock bike and I agree they helped smooth out that configuration, but when I put the two add ons it was not enough.
The Stage 1 will put the ECM in harmony with your changes. Now I am going to run my bike for about 1000 miles and check and recheck the plugs for lean signs. If it is running lean I will reinstall the x14ieds to see if it will give a little fuel boost.
Believe me if you go get the Stage 1 from Harley for about 50.00 more than the x14ieds you will notice the difference.
That is all.
stage 1 download..so what is this to do my bike? I'm sorry my bad... I thought my bike is already in stage 1 after my upgrades. Did you mean DYNo?...I'm sorry my bad again. I'm new to all this....I dont know I read different terms but I dont realized they only have the same meaning.....correct if I'm wrong

can anyone tell me which one is best for my bike to use. I ride my bike 35mph to 45mph in the suburbs going to work and house about 24 miles everyday and sometimes I exit to freeway and drive my bike 60mph to 70mph around 12 miles.
and also if possible to combine one of this product to V&H FUEL-PAK...because I was also interested buying one..
thanks!

Respectfuly dissagree. I have the stage1 download and it sucks, my plugs are whiter than white and the motor gets so hot you have to ride with your highway pegs most of the time because the engine heat runs right through your pants. Rode 200+ miles yesterday, bike ran like crap, It does the High idle thing all the time now, NOW when it happens the engine light comes on, It stayed in high revs for 3 miles and to me thats VERY unsafe trying to shift decently and also downshift. At the first light, it fineally reved down, but the light stayed on for a bit more. Then went a half mile to BK to eat and it did the high rev thing again, but no light. Same on the way home, got off highway and it wouldnt even off to idle, went a mile and it did it all the way to my yard where after 30 seconds of having the clutch in it fineally settled down. Im sick as hell of this happening, the dealer says my bike is set for stage1, says the rev thing is normal, and the surging is normal, ect ect. 2 times it has been in for a check and both times they say its fine, but second time they actually found that what i was saying about 3rd to forth band being weak, i was right! Im so pissed, they are getting the bike back being told i wont pick it up till its right, and if they try to charge me after putting 600 miles on it since i spent the 9k on it, they can keep it and ill inform the bank as to why its there and they can come get it. Im sick of this crap. Performance HD in Syracuse is the worst place ive ever delt with and never again do so. be warned, anyone in my area, goto anyplace but them!

If you did the upgrades yourself, and didnt take it to the shop for a flash of the ECM, then you dont have the stage1 downloaded. Like ive said and i believe with all my heart, the stage1 download is a bunch of crap and for the money, just buy the XiED's.

Yes i have, no leaks. I wish it were that simple. Read previous post and see why im so dayum upset. This is killin me having this happen to something i spent a huge chunk of money as cash down for something that to me is one of the worst bikes ive ever seen. Hell, dont even know if i can afford to trade it in for something else, or like i said, just surrender it. Id rather not ride ahan put up with this any longer. Put 700ish miles on it and its been this way since day 1. Bike has 5.2k miles now, it had 4.5k when i bought it april 4th. Put 700ish miles on it and its been this way since day 1. x14 or the VIED. One is set for all around speeds(x14) and the other(VIED) is adjustable with 2 diff ratios, you pick the one that performs the best for your rideing situation.
