Default sore butt

i HAVE A 88 883. The bumps hurt. How do I know if or what kind of a softer(?) shock to get? I need a seat too (factory). Thanks

Not sure what fits your '88... I put the HD touring bike air shocks on mine to smooth out the hard bumps and they worked so well I put off upgrading my stock seat. Plus they were cheap since they were take-offs from a StreetGlide that someone didn't want. You'll want to measure the length of your stock shocks and get something close, unless you want to raise/lower your rear end.

One other thing, once you upgrade those rear shocks, you'll feel how bad the stock front springs are, I upgraded my front springs to Progressives two weeks after I put those rear shocks on.

1st off - might want to put more thought into your post titles...unless you want all the homophobe comments...

2nd - stock HD seats aren't the best fit for most riders + long treks. Replacement seat + shock maint/replacement should help...good luck!

Not sure why you want to go with a factory seat as they are generally not the most comfortable.

Check out Mustang seats. Something like this would be 1000% more comfortable than the stock seat.

For a sore butt, I would first focus on the seat. There are plenty of good options. The stock seats suck. They are basically a brick wrapped in vinyl.

I found that you don't really need softer but wider. I have more than one seat for my bike, a look cool seat for short hops and a wide not so cool seat if you need to go a long ways.

I have an 883 with mustang touring seat and love it. You must get better shocks as well

If your butt hurts its the saddle. If ts your back, kidneys, and every other part of you its the shocks.
I replaced both, I got the Sundowner, factory seat. I like it better than the Corbin I had.

Something like a Sundowner seat and the next step or two up on the might be in order. Just want to make sure that you know that the shocks are adjustable. You might want to see what they are adjusted to. You may just have to crank them up to the high end and if you are extra heavy like me you may want to go up to the top or second from the top setting to help stiffen them up. Sportster shocks are not the greatest but with the proper adjustment and a softer wider seat you may get away from the added expense of heavier duty shocks.

I'm just reiterating here...
1) Post title
2) Seat
3) Check shocks/settings and adjust accordingly

I have the Mustang vintage two up on my bike and adjust as needed.

Good luck!
