I've never changed the oil in my 2010 Iron myself (always taken it into the dealership), but I'd like to start doing it myself. I can't find the manual for it, and I'm finding conflicting information online.
How much oil should a 2010 Sportster take?
Additionally, I also need to add oil to the filter itself, correct?

Thanks!
In total it will take ~2.8 quarts, keep it at about 1/2 way on the dipstick. I always fill the filter about 1/2 way.
I just put 1qt., 24oz. in my '11 48. Put it exactly in the middle of the dipstick. Yes I drained ALL the oil. Manual calls for 2 qts.
2.75 qts. would be overflowing out of the resevoir.

Hmmm. Just changed mine on Saturday and 2.75 brought it right to the halfway point on the dipstick. I have a 08 1200c. Maybe yours is different.
Maybe yall's filters are bigger? The 1qt. 24oz. is including 4 oz. in the filter. Idk why the difference but it has thinking! I only ran it for about 3 minutes tonights after changing the fluid cuz it started to rain. If it's not raining tomorrow I'll go for a ride & check it when I get back. My manual says 2 quarts. What does yall's manuals say???????

My manual says 2.8 quarts. I'm using the standard hd filter. Did you drain the oil at normal operating temp?
Staring at the service manual for an '07 Custom right now:
Pour 3.6 quarts (U.S.) (3.4 liters) of oil into engine oil tank minus the 4 fl. oz. (120ml) added in step 1.
Step 1 was pouring the oil into the oil filter
That seems like a lot to me because I don't remember adding over 3 quarts when I do my oil change. My vote is on just going by your dipstick. That's what it's there.
Just re-read manual. Mine says 4oz. in filter PLUS 2qts. in reservoir so 2qt. 4 oz. total. So I do need to add a tad bit more. Wonder why so many different amounts???????
