I am new to owning a motorcycle but have a pretty good bit of background on workin on cars... I have a 05 1200C and I have only had it about 2 weeks now the starter won't turn the motor over I can hear the bendix engaging but nothing after that... Just wanting to see what yal think. I have put 700 bucks into it for tires and belt and want to make sure I am replacing the right part so I don't throw all kinds of green in this for one simple problem.
Is the starter just clicking or can you hear it whining?
How many miles on the bike?
How old is the battery?
Is the headlight still BRIGHT when you hit the start button?
.
.
.
It is just clicking... I have been noticing that when I try and start it that it will turn over until it hits compression then it will pause for a second Like it is struggling to turn it over, then it fires up but now nothing
It has 13,500 miles and not sure for the battery or head light haven't looked at them yet got on it this mourning to ride to work and it wouldn't crank
The first thing you need to check is the battery, it sounds like it's dead. If the battery is the original, it's overdue for replacement.
Also check that the connections on BOTH ends of BOTH battery cables are clean and tight.
I would have to say the battery as well.... Give it a good slow charge, if it still does it a few days after riding replace, add a battery tender to it as well to keep it maintained properly. I wouldn't go out and buy a cheep one though you don't want to "boil" the liquid out of it when your not using it for a while.
Okay just took the battery out and got it checked and it's good... Battery was purchased 06/2010...just wondering could tapping the starter maybe jar something loose like in a car?
