Default Bit 'o rust

So I was looking under the bike the other day. Don't even remember why but I noticed some of the paint on the frame peeling and rust forming underneath. It doesn't seem to be anything too serious, but I don't want it to get out of hand. What can I do to stop it from getting worse/spreading?

If it's out of site you could clean it and give it a quick rattle can job. I stripped all the paint off my tank and I use "Boeshield T9" to prevent rust... works great but you will have to apply some every couple weeks or so.

Rattle can? Your gunna get paint all over your chrome... if the rust is bad than use a wire brush to get rid or it and then sand it with 180, clean it with alcohol, and paint it with a brush with oil based paint, give it two coats and your good, brand new.. If it isn't bad, sand it alittle, clean it, and paint

When your painting with oil based paints either make sure u dont get it in u or wear gloves cuz that stuff stays on u like sap from a tree.. Ull never get it off with soap and water or a sand block, ull need some paint thinner

Well, it would require masking the rest of the bike, which actually isn't that hard if you use some big old towels or contractor's paper, but yes a brush would be easier.

For painting small areas of the frame, I would use black Epoxy Appliance paint, it produces a much harder finish than enamel paint. You can get it at most hardware stores in a rattle can.
You can always spray the paint into a container and then brush it on if masking for spraying is a problem.

Why not give Naval Jelly a try? Wally's sells it for cheap. Just brush it on and it converts the rust to a hard paintable surface. Just make sure the surface is grease free and lightly wire-brushed.
