Iron 883 Vs Yamaha V star 650

Maybe this is no longer a concern on newer bikes, this is what I found to be said about older shaft bikes:
Second, older shaft drive systems lacked modern torque canceling positioning arms and old BMWs, Moto-Guzzis, Gold Wings and Yamahas had a characteristic known as “shaft-jacking” effect. When one applies power to the wheel, the fixed pinion gear rotates in line with the end of the swing arm, but the ring gear that is 90-degrees from the pinion geometrically reacts to power application by causing a perceptible rise to the rider’s seat.
Conversely, when power is chopped suddenly, the bike’s rear attitude drops just as quickly. If one is riding at a fast clip, exploring the limits of ground clearance and the rider is ham-fisted about cutting power, one could have hard parts levering the wheel to the outside of the turn, causing a crash. This is an “in extremis” case, but it is something old hands riding those older shaft bikes understand. Nowadays, things like the torque canceling Paralever used by BMW and similar copies of the system used by Moto-Guzzi and Kawasaki on their Concours 1400cc sport tourer, largely eliminate the chassis attitude issues of the older bikes.

Vstar vs 883
Hi,
I am 5.6 , 150 lbs , 43 years old .
Currently I am debating between Vstar 650 & Sportster Iron 883 .
There have been mixed reviews on Sportster Iron 883 stating its a chic bike & does not perform very well cruising on the high way.
I have ridden a yamaha 125 cc for more than 15 years & I am confident of handling the bike but I have not ridden in the USA for more than 10 years.
I am looking for a bike for pleasure ridding over the week end , but since I am small made I am concerned by the handling & the weight of the bike , safety etc.
I have looked at VSTAR 650 & Iron 883 , they weigh about the same & I liked Iron 883 more in terms of looks & seat height & engine but I could not test ride either one of them.
There are some great reviews on vstar 650 , where as for iron 883 they were complaining about the leaks , chick bike etc.
The Iron 883 is about $1500 more than a V STAR 650 but i can afford this.
I would appreciate your input & insight

Get the Harley. This is my take and I own one and have ridden it many miles. My 883 likes to cruise at 65-70 mph. Will it go faster? yes, but it seems that its sweet spot is 65-70. if you think you'd like to cruise at 90, get a bigger bike. I also have a Dyna, and if I go on the highway for extended rides of many miles, I take that. Can I do it on the 883? yes, but the Dyna is more comfortable and suited for the super slab than the 883.
