Default Leg Amputee Help

A friend of mine just bought a Sportster and wants to make it more suitable to his disability...

He has a titanium right prosthetic leg mid thigh and yes he can ride fine and has for a few years but rear braking is not really doable...

Ive searched a bit, but all seem to be hokey homemade stuff or dead links.

Does anybody know of a twin master cyl with twin levers setup that would work?

We don't want to go the electric push button setup

Thanks in advance

You could always make your own system.

Possibly using the handle bar lever for both brakes. Get a nice beefy master, something that can handle both calipers on the sporty. Then us a a regulator to split maybe 35% rear pressure, and 65% front. Sure it doesn't give him the ability to control either or specifically, but you can tune it to how you ride and be done with it.

You can also adapting those shoes with the clips on them for the bicycle riders use. It helps them use force pushing and pulling the pedals. I think it would work on the brake lever. Just find someone to weld the pedal clp to the brake lever, would also make resting your leg on the brake and peg easier.

Have a riding buddy that has no left leg from knee down .. Ended up Triking his Sportster and Went with the Pingle Shifter for a while but it kept messing up on him .. ended up making a crossover so could shift and brake both with his right leg .. Don't see why couldn't do it the opposite way as well .. If check the Pic will see crutches instead of a shifter .. Thought I had a better picture of his crossover link but couldn't locate it ..

I've heard that some racers use a left thumb setup for the brake? Might already be something available with a bit of tweaking...

Lots of stunt riders have the rear brake moved to the front utilizing another master cylinder setup and a shorty lever perched up at a slightly higher angle as not to interfere with other lever operations. Here is just one simple variation that seems to be the most common form of this modification.

Take a look at a proportional brake valve system. You'll also need a larger front master cylinder, probably about 3/4" to do the job.
Honda and BMW have been using these systems for years.

Google the phrase "harley proportional brake".

Just out of curiosity, I looked it up. Here's a website with lots of links;
http://www.nogood.net/amputee.html
Adaptive LLC as mentioned above is listed there.

So it is do-able... Good luck!
