I have a 95 sportster 1200XL , recently I had an oil pressure plug go bad on me, I replaced it changed the oil and filter. I also noticed teflon floating in my gas tank so i cleaned it out (filter was'nt clogged, but defenately slowed) it was in very good condition though so I'm still using it. Any way It's all back togeather, idling fine, but when I get out on the road and try to give it throttle into high rpm it sputterd and jerks. it ran perfect before the oil plug issue. I would apprieciate any help. Thank you.
well it ran good before so that tells me that you got trash in your carb bowl since you played with filter i would look at carb bowl 4 screws and its off
me i hate teflon tape as a gas seal should use a sealant made for that
I'll check that, but the teflon in the tank was more like the stuff you find on non-stick pots and pans. I wondered if harley lined tanks with the stuff?

That sounds like "Kreem" which is an old indian word for stuff that plugs up your petcock screen and fills your float bowl w/junk.
You need to drain the tank, remove the petcock, clean the screen, put some nuts & bolts in your tank, shake it around to remove any of the stuff that's loose. There are commercially available solvents that will clean it out - but, if someone Kreemed the tank - they either did so 'cause someone else told 'em it was a good idea, or the tank was leaking.
I'm going with the "someone told them" I've inspected the tank and all is well, so I'm breaking going elmo elbow deep in the carb this morning. I'll check the tank again. thanks

slight hijack - what's the bike in your signature pic? The fairing looks a lot like my FXRT fairing w/the addition of cop lights.
the pic is just something my buddy sent me, not sure. Well I got the bowl off, cleaned the jets, there was some debrix but not much. I was however able to get the rpm's into higher range than before, but it still cuts out, and when I got back from my test ride I was completely stoped, goosed it a little, and it was weak and choppy. Next I'll try the petcock, any other idea's would be apprieciated, Thanks.
went through the carb, the tank, all clean... went for a test ride and broke down a mile from my f'n house! Over heated smell'n funny, just like it did before I replaced the oil pressure plug, so I look down there and find the plug vibed half out and the connection wire flopping around loose between the plug and the nut. If it sounds like it might be something different than that please let me know.
