Default Timer Cover Replacement

I have a 2007 883 low. I bought a replacement Timer cover. The directions say you have to take the negative battery terminal off before switching it out. Is this really necessary??? If so, why?

that is the first step on ever set of HD directions I swear.

probably not needed, just one of those things they do

I swapped out the timing cover on my SG and it had nothing to do with anything electronic

Your also not supposed to stand in water while you disconnect the battery, but they assume you already know that.

HD Instructions always start out with disconnect the neg or pull the maxi fuse. Its lawyers speaking not mechanics.

Bingo! It's so that when someone doesn't pull the terminal and accidentally turns the bike over or something they can't sue H-D for injury or parts damage.
