I bought a set of V&H Big Radius from Dennis Kirk on 4/25/11 for my 2006 Sportster. I isolated a rattle coming from them. Took the top pipe off and found that one of the brackets on the heat shield that the pipe clamp goes through to hold the heat shield to the pipe was no longer welded to the shield. What can be done to repair this ?
Thanks,
I'm wondering if welding the bracket back on will damage the chrome.

Yes it will destroy the chrome plating in the heat-affected zone around the weld. you have to strip the chrome plate before welding it
i would call them its far more effective, i never got a reply by email about two seperate issues i had with my pipes. Both times a phone call got the issues resolved. The first issue was from a poor ceramic coating and they sent me new pipes, the second was from flaking chrome on my endcap and again they sent me a new endcap. I would imagine they will send you new heat shields if you can get ahold of them.
