05 1200 Sporty sat for.........

Good Day to all,

I have a 05 1200 sportster and my wife doesnt really ride a whole lot. The question I have for all of you is, the bike sat for about 6 mnths or so and when it did sit I had the fuel petcock turned of and let the bike run till it died out(no gas in carb) I have recently started it up and it smokes a lil bit (black) but it also doesn't stay on during idle. what could be causing this? Should I but a bottle of sea foam or fuel additive to the tank? when I let it sit it did have a full tank of gas. Any and all info will be appreciated.

Id try seafoam had good experience with the stuff. Gas may have gone bad. But if you shut off fuel carb shouldnt have had any probs

If the fuel wasn't treated with a stabilizer before storage, dump the old gas and start with fresh stuff.

Yup, fresh gas with some seafoam and a good hard ride on the highway should clean her out.
Great excuse to take a day off work and go for a nice long ride!

I agree... but I'd wire brush and re-gap the plugs as well.
