Good day all, I have a 05 custom and haven't rode it in like 6+ months. Before I shut it off for storage I had filled the gas tank and then I decided to store it cause the wife chose not to ride it. I let the bike idol and shut the pet **** off till it died(no feul in carb). I know that gas has a tendency of tarnishing, I want to take the old gas out and refill with new gas and some seafoam. Is that gunna hurt anything? all answers and suggestions appreciated.
Seafoam is awesome stuff. If I'm not mistake you may need to drain the bowl of the carb even after you ran it out of fuel with the petcock. Just to get the end of the funky fuel out of the bowl.
The fact that it is a full tank of gas helps, I think I would give it the foam and ride it.
I'am down here in the cold country(Canada)my bike sets for 7 months at a time and all i do is just turn the petcock off,and never had any problems with bad gas.
Seafoam is good stuff if your carb is not to dirty.
Today's gas has so many additives that it does not break down like the gas of days gone bye.
I am not sure about HD but most carburetors have gaskets and O-rings that if left dry they will shrink and crack. If you drain it for months at a time you might end up with a leaky carb and fuel line. I thought the 05 Sporty was fuel injected....
Start it up and let it idle for about 4 or 5 minutes, shut it off check around the carb for any leaks, if none are found I think you will be good to go.
Thank you guys for all the input, I will definitly add the seafoam and new gas and see what happenes. I will keep you posted. Yah the 05 that I have is carbed Odhar.

They started the EFI on the Sportys in 07. Mine's an 06 and she's carb.

Memo
I would NOT even drain the gas. Just add the seafoam. Hell, I don't even add the seafoam to my gas tank when I park mine for Hunting season/Winter. I just let it idle & die. Same routine for the past 13 years.
My bike is EFI, but the fuel has been in the tank for well over 6 months and the bike has not ran. I have seafoam in the tank so I know all is good. If you drained the fuel then you should be able to fill the tank and go. A few caps full of Seafoam will not hurt and is not a bad idea to put in the freash tank of gas.
