Funny Story
First off, the guy before me put a K&N air filter in it. Awesome. Second thing, there's this puddle of stuff in the bottom lip of my air cleaner cover. What is it? I dip my finger in it, smell it, and then look at the cleaner. In large letters the cleaner says, "OIL BEFORE USE." I smell my finger again. It's clean, almost clear engine oil!
I'm no genious when it comes to being a mechanic (practically a noob), but damn! The whole bottom of the cleaner cover was puddled with engine oil, and as I lifted it off, it spilled onto my exhaust and down the side of my bike. I guess the fella thought it meant engine oil and lubed it up REALLY good.
I got a good laugh out of it as I rode to Auto Zone to pick up a recharge/cleaner kit. Now the freshly cleaned, properly brightly red-oiled air filter is doing just fine. Kind of comforting knowing that the dealer looked the bike over so closely before selling it. FAIL.
you are seeing one of the sporty "issues"- a good beather tube will fix this... or keep your oil level below half. otherwise you will be getting that oil on your right pants leg if you get up in the rpms.
on my bike is a horseshoe breather, plus i keep my oil level down a bit. i used to get oil all over my bike and me, but no longer.
