Unhappy Nightster fork boot problem ...

Hi everyone,

I need some help with an issue i have with my fork boots. I like how they look contrary to almost all Nightster owners that en up removing them. But i just noticed that they are turning yellow/brownish, they seem to have like a layer of rust or yellow powder which won't come off with washing.

Has anyone else had this problem before? I don't know how to get rid of that damn yellow crap.

I'll post some pics tomorrow, but just wanted to know if someone else had this issue and found a solution.

Armorall wipes work. Mine do that every time I wash the bike.

That brownish/yellow is like dead skin on the rubber. Just needs some degreaser and a good scrubbing to remove it. It happens from using a silicon on the rubber, and then when it dries up the top layer "dies". To keep it from happening as often either use a really good long lasting tire shine, or a water based vinyl conditioner/shine. Avoid armour all, all it is, is a greasy silicon and I've never seen it last longer then 2 days.

You can also give "Back to Black" from Mothers a shot. Its a liquid that you put on a rag, then wipe on on the surface you want to treat. Works real well on faded black plastic, havent tried it on rubber but its cheap and cant hurt to try.
