Hey. sometimes its hard to get my bike into 1st gear. Every once in awhile while driving coming down from second i can feel the gears grinding and sometimes i have to try twice. Now when I'm in neutral and in running with some choke its hard to get it into first. instead of the "clunk" i get a sound like somethings rubbing on a chain. My gut is this is not right should I take it to get my clutch adjusted? would changing to a thicker primary/trans oil help?
If you have no tools, you can't act on anyone's advice. Now with a service manual and a set of tools, you can do practically anything.
I'd start with primary chain adjustment, then adjust your clutch. Also, don't be afraid to shift forcefully, you won't break it
John
Seriously here. That is one of the things that get a lot of people in to trouble, or thinking there is trouble. DO NOT be afraid to shift the bike. You will not go past the gear you are going to. Do it and do it with a purpose.
i feel like i do hit the shifter hard enough. I think im gonna get that tool and change the fluid to that mobile synthetic 75 w 90 and while im there check the adjustment. But it that oil good for fall riding I live in Michigan and its getting pretty chilly is that too thick? i see that a lot of ppl use that in their hd's
