Madchemist 24. I would love to see you take a brand new HD throttle sleeve w grip installed and use your air compressor or screwdriver. I calling bullshido on that one.
OP, cut em and done.
Doubt he searched ... threads on this topic are plentiful.
If he didnt search this, he will most likely jump to simply asking for advice on other jobs and if you've read a few of the crap replies folks deliver, you would see that he might do some harm to his bike or himself if he followed them blindly.
As for the screwdriver, chance of hurting himself or the bike doing this is nil, the grip does lift easily. Try before you dispute it. And wd40. Cmon dude, with the grip off, dish detergent or even brake cleaner on a flippin rag.
As for your advice, find a new sleeve for the throttle side? New grip comes w the sleeve.
Im sure you think the referral for the manual is a bad idea too.
If you had grips you wanted to save I would agree with and air comp..... but you will end up scrapping em.
A screwdriver can maul chrome or powder on bars so if that is your route, rag/ tape up before gouging!!
The grips on my latest HD are NOT glued by choice. They dont roll, or slip EVER. And my original HD grips could NOT be removed with an air comp or a screwdriver as they were literally entirely glued to the bar and throttle sleeve.
Its a 48. Black bars, not chrome. Rhe screwdriver will be used under the grip and switch housing apart .. parts of the bar that are either not coated, or will not show ... you are worrying about a non issue.
i have a 2011 iron, and i got my stock grips off with just wd40 n a hard pull and they slid right off. i guess i got lucky though cos iv heard of people having nightmares getting theirs off.
i was lucky enough to be able to put my back on. i only took mine off for a handlebar swap. i dont know most people hate the stock grips, but i like them.
well until i see a pair i wont be able to say no to
If using a lube is a must to remove the grip, Use something soluble as to not leave a residue to interfere with chemake up or drying/curing new grip glue. WD-40 is a bad choice IMO. Brakekleen and types would only remove that crap.
Btw, not too familiar w edgecut but they are metal yeah? Some preference tips: slimmer profile grips can cause cramping on hauls. thicker =more leverage and "quicker feel" throttle". Metal grips stay a bit cooler in the winter and a bit hotter in summer. Metal also condensates allowing beads of water to form on the grips in certain temps. Rubber grips will hug the bar better (usually) as they hold by friction as well. (the green Palmolive/blue Dawn "squeak" seems to be a good safe degreaser/cleaner for most apps) Again, I don't know your level of DIY but hopefully someone can benfit. CHope this helps. Cheers.

geezzzzz, bad day bro? I was trying to lead him "astray"..... not argue with you. You are a "road master". You MUST know your ****.
Nope, manual is a great idea. Unlike the screwdriver and WD-40 (great combo for a slip) on powdercoat/chrome/hand idea.
Didn't know the new grip came with a sleeve. The grips on my bikes do not.
My personal experience of removing the grips were just not as easy as yours even w my air/PLASTIC clothes hanger (screwdriver??...ughhh). Cheers.

I dig the new HD stocks as well. plain, grippy and class.
