There's something I've learned about people...in general...over the years. For the most part when they give you advice like this, it's saying a hell of a lot more about them than it is about you or even society as a whole.

I was told that its not a good idea for a black guy to be on a harley
because "real harley guys" will beat me up and take my bike
They also told me that i was too damn big for a sportster
i have sat on a ton of bikes and rode a few and for me i love the feel
of the sportster. I love the nimbleness, agility and customizations
my first car was a porsche 914 (rebadged volkswagen)
it was tiny, underpowered and an absolute blast to drive
thankyou guys for your help!

A couple years ago at the Fayettevile Ar get together there were some Black ridders on some very nice slicked back Harleys.
They had no problems at all in the town or with other riders.
As a side note after all that time in the service seems like you would have learned to deal with a few things.
