I also considered buying a kit first but I didn't need the option of moving my key, which most of the kits seem to offer. So with lots of spare bits of steel in my garage I ended up welding my own bracket.
The DK products are top notch. Just did my bike a couple of days ago. I'm not a metal worker or welder so gotta go with what I can do...or afford. At about $120 for tank lift, coil and starter relocation kit, it was a no brainer for me. Very happy with the end result.
