Default cleaning oil

Quick question. The inside of my primary is quite dirty(causing my fluid to be black after less than 1000 mi) so I am going to clean it and am wondering the best way. Someone suggested kerosene. I also have a ton of isopropyl alcohol 99%. What works well.

You have to remember that when you change your oil there will still be about 10 to 14 or so ounces of old oil left in your sump. That is what causes your new oil to look dirty so soon. The only way to flush that oil out is using a "Scavenger" type system. I feel that even though they do the job well, you waste a bit of new oil flushing it out and is not worth it. If you do a search on this forum to find a lot of discussion about it and do a search on Google for "Scavenger" to find the system. It will run you a little over $100 with shipping for a Scavenger kit and a couple of quarts or extra oil at EACH oil change to completely flush out your system. In my opinion, and a lot of other here, it's not worth it. If you change your oil at the recommended intervals there should be no problem at all.

I would just use wd-40 or kerosene and a old toothbrush and rags, the alcohol will
dry so quick.

He said the PRIMARY, not the motor.

He is talking about his primary/transmission oil. It only takes 1 quart (approx.) I would just change it out a couple of times at 500 miles and see if it clears up some. You could clean it out with some K1 but I think changing the oil like I said a couple times will clear it up and won't contaminate the oil with something else. It will probably darken up anyway a little and there should be no concern with that.

I still think kerosene would be best, save the alcohol for your crack smoking buddies.

If you have trouble finding kerosene, you can go to the gas station and get a little bit
of diesel fuel, that's what we have been using in the parts wash tank the last few years.

thanks for the help. I replaced my clutch and it looks like the previous owner removed the spring plate but didnt put anything in to take up the space. Or they put a new clutch in that didnt have as many rings as the energy one kit i used. Is either of these possible? The bikes fine I am just curious.

I use brake cleaner and spray everything down inside the primary when I change my fluid (leaving the drain plug out of course). I get it from my local Advance Auto Parts when they have it on sale for buy one, get one.
