I have riden bikes with both. It really isn't that big of a deal between both of them.

forward controls on my 07 883c have a very relaxed riding position, the only pitfall i find is on a long journey the top of the moneybox ( coxic i think it is called? ) hurts a bit so you need to just raise your backside a bit once every 10 miles or so and this is a little awkward on the hwy.
other than that YEP! Forward controls are the go for me, Bretho

So...if I buy the C, can I put the controls back to mid with some alterations, if I later decide that is what I want? I got a lotta parking lots to steer around in Houston.
With enough gas in the torch tanks and cash in the bank, you can do anything. But, that wouldn't be an easy task because the mounting points on the frame aren't there.
I have been riding with forward controls exclusively since the late 70's because assorted old injuries make most mid mounted pegs rather uncomfortable for me, and have had no problems with speedbumps, RR tracks and such. The trick is to keep an eye out for serious bumps and adjust your speed.
