Worth HD in Kansas City had a black Nightster in yesterday (it's sold already). Here are my impressions:
1) It looks FAST. The proportions are just right, and the bike has a great "presence"
2) It is comfortable. For once, a stock seat looks and feels good.
3) The exhuast, front fork gaiters and rear tailight (or lack therein) all work together to give the bike a unique "look" that is both raw and refined.
4) It sounds great...I actually like the stock exhaust.
5) The rear tail light (intergrated into the turn signals) is really nice. What a clean look.
6) The folding license plate is great...I also like the LEDs they use...
7) The dealer rep (who has a 1200 EFI that is really getting tricked out) said the Nightster has 7 more HP than stock bikes. The HD website does not verify this, but he said the internals are different as well??? Can someone from HD confirm, or will we have to wait for dyno results? (NOTE: I touched base with the new owner [an employee at the HD factory in Kansas City] on a Kansas City area forum. He has confirmed with HD that the new Nightster uses the stock 1200 motor.)
OK, it's not perfect...
Why no tach?
The silver mat finish on some parts looks wrong (I was going to say, "looks cheap)
I think they should have gone with more chrome
That said, this is a great addition to the Sportster line. I look forward to hearing from those who buy them!
I agree with Harrison on this one. The bike really does have a nice appearance. It truly looks like a custom, even though it's right from the factory. Very well could be one of the coolest special editionSportsters HD has put out in quite awhile. Like Harrison said, I too think this bad boy could use a little more chrome. I understand why they gave the matte finish, and I can only imagine many owners will be spending some bucks to convert it all over to chrome. If I didn't already have a Sportster, I'd get this one as a second bike just for the cool factor alone
Thanks for posting that. I can't wait for my dealor to get one it for me to see myself. On the website all i found on the engine was that it was a more radical cam. And high-flow heads. That must be where its getting the 7 more hp from. I had been wondering how much more, if any horse it put out. It will also be good to read a report from a non-bias group in a magazine about one, how it handles etc.
P.S. one thing i dont like is the small 3.3l tank. One up for us Custom guys out there...
Why do so many people want more chrome? Almost all aftermarket parts are chrome. Why not start with a black bike and if you want the chrome by the extra parts. I think it has too much chrome.
Just a drive-by comment from an Ultra rider: Man that Nightster is one great lookin scoot. It got great play in our Forums section. How much money can I scrape up for one...
If you got some sway with MoCo though, get em to change that bottom of the barrel awful new model name though!
Just a note to add that the new Nightster uses a stock motor...Regardless, it looks and sounds great and is about 22 lbs (10k) lighter than regular sportsters,.
I just saw it on the web for the first time and I absolutely love it and want one!!! I just hope they make them available to the Australian market, although I don't know if that taillight setup would be legal down here...
Stopped at my local dealership on the way home from work. They didn't have any in yet but are expecting 2 in the next week or so. A black on black one and a black and olive one.
The black on black is already sold!
Seems like they're the hottest thing HD has come out with in a long time. Not only can they not keep any in stock, they can't even get them in the door before they're sold.
I left my number and they said they'd call me when they get in so I can get a first hand look at them. Maybe I can snap a few pics for us.
Did Harley settle the contract dispute at the York Pa plant?I heard on the radio that there may be a strike. If they are building nightsters there the delivery dates may change.
