I'll be installing a tach soon and was wondering where the "red line" should be for my bike.
It's a 2007 XL1200C with theSE Stage 1 A/C and download.
And also what RPM's are too low.
I've just been going by the way the engine sounds and that's so subjective and imprecise. Especially after changing exhaust (SE)@ 1000mi. and A/C @ 2500mi.
Thanks as always.
Jeff
Ought to be in the service manual, if not, I know there's someone on forum that has a Custom that could tell you. Then there's the old fassion way...it's an 07, i.e. FI, therefore has an ECU RPM limit. I hit mine once, the motor cuts out. Get to 3rd or so, let her rip and watch the tach.
On my stock 2007 XL50 it was 6000. After the Race Tuner work was done, it raised it to 7000 RPM. The SERT was done after installing a Stage 1 and SE II Slip Ons.
Sure would be hard to get to 7000rpm with the rev limiter set at 6000.
Got rev limiter on my 800 polaris sportsman efi and 6200 is it,even with a belt slipping,I am sure the rev limiter on my 07 sportster works the same way thus REV LIMITER.
