Default Ground cable

Could they have put the ground cable in a more difficult spot on my wifes 04 1200c ? Out cruising the other day and looked back and she was gone. Turned around and found her sitting on the side of the road. Ground cable broke right at the stud on the case. Found an auto zone and bought a new one. Had to attach it to a different location as getting to that stud is next to impossible. Guess I'll pull the bike out and go after it in the driveway. Might be easier than laying on the ground next to the road with the fire ants. Anyone have any tricks that may make it easier

I was doing some maintenance and I had to disconnect mine today. However, I was in my well-lit garage with fresh coffee, I had a 6" extension for my ratchet and the universal swivel. It was still a PITA. I cannot imagine trying that roadside.

I carry lots of tools plus I bought a 1/4 swivel socket and a 1/4 extension (too long tho) when I bought the new cable. After a VERY short time I gave up and just hooked it to a different stud and brought it home. Maybe I'll tackle it tomorrow. Being Sunday I probably won't swear as much

It's a big PITA on my Sporty also. But if you take your time and replace / install corrrectly, you should be fine for years.

Heck, it was a hassle trying to unhook it before doing some minor electrical work (heated gear pigtail) and then reattaching the nut afterwords. I'd hate to have to replace that cable.

Well I got her all back to stock (I hope). When I finally got the "nut" loose I discovered that the whole stinkin stud was backin out. Oh well, it's behind me now
Ride safe guys

There's gotta be a better way. My '04's battery is in the basement on with several others on chargers for the winter, and I'm not going to just hook it up to that miserable ground cable again; reroute, two piece cable, different attach point; don't know just what yet, but bet I can figure out a better way to ground it, even if I have to pull the box and modify it. My '00 is getting a slightly longer ground cable, think that'll be enough for it, ain't near as bad. Bike, car, airplane - doesn't matter, engineers just seldom seem to consider maintenance at all.

When I hooked mine up on the side of the road I used the stud thats located on the left side of the bike, towards the upper rear of the primary on the inboard side. Bought the cable from Auto Zone. It was a little longer which made it much easier to work with. part # 06091

The other tool I needed for this was the telescoping magnet, because I kept dropping the damn nut.
