I Installed a fuel pak this weekend and had to remove the ground temporairly.I found it easy with a ratcheting box end wrench and going at it just below the top of the belt, there is a little pocket there and you can get a couple clicks at a time on the wrench.Dont try from the side with the battery cover its to deep that way.My son is in harley training at mmi and this is how they teach them to do it there so I kind of cheated I guess.

I replaced my battery today, and had to take that darn thing off....long 1/4" extension, and a swivel worked out perfect. Putting it back on was a different story.

i relocated mine to the ground lug on the starter... also its a good idea to take your ground cable to the local "car audio" store and have them build you a new BETTER cable and about 3in longer in the long run it will be better also get a heavier gauge cable you will have less voltage drop.

Just did a DK Custom ignition relocation that requires you to get at the ground bolt as well.

Couldn't figure out how to get at it from the left side of the bike , so I asked a buddy to take a look. He handed me a 10" ratchet extension and I just went in from the right side of the bike through a mess of wires.

+1 on being a PITA--I must have dropped that nut / socket at least a half dozen times trying to get it back on...

Default longer ground cable

For those of you who are or will be changing your ground cable on your sportster this is the Auto Zone part# 06091. It is longer and makes changing or servicing your battery MUCH easier
