Grandpa always said if it aint broke don't fix it....Put your new tape on and ride it some more. If you are too rich, sooner or later it will act like the choke is on and start back firiong through the exhaust, then you will know you have a problem.
I would disagree on always. My pipes go from black to blue to gold. It has more to do with how much heat is going threw. I understand a lean bike will be hotter. But a beefed up 1200 that's tuned and is run very hard will change all kinds of colors. And color isnt dependent on lean or rich
Hard to argue with that logic, Ive only been riding and tuning Harleys for 32 years. By the way, look at any new pipe manufacturer and their disclaimer for pipe blueing because it is directly related to your AFR....
Blue always indicates rich / Gold Lean, much better to be too rich as engine runs cooler
I didnt disagree with your statement. I disagree with the always statement. Just because you stated you had 32 years of exp? Does that mean you know everything?

Give me any sportster with perfect afr and ill have the pipes 3 different colors in a week from beating on it, on the street and one test and tune day at the track.
The fuelpak only works in open loop, you need something to richen it up in closed loop. Spend $100 and get some XIEDS, and your bike will run a lot better and cooler. It'll idle a lot better too!
