Default Why wrap exhaust if header pipe will crack?

Thinking about wrapping my V & H pipes in black exhaust wrap. Looks rat and cool as hell. But wait a minute! Why would anybody do this if the header pipe will crack? Does this ALWAYS happen? Is there a way to do it where the pipe won't crack?

Seeking wisdom and advice.

I doubt that it always happens.I wrapped my Thunderheader damn near 3 years ago and I've re wrapped it once and there were no cracks. If it does crack I'll throw my stock headers back on there and they'll get wrapped too.

Cracks are pretty common with wrapped pipes. Its really not a great idea.

I got no cracks.
I painted mine with high temp header paint before I wraped em.

For those of you with no cracks, how many miles.....10,000, 20,0000, or more?

I think some don't put many miles on their bikes ( I know some guys who ride less than 5k a year ) so might never have an issue.

I always thought that the header cracked because of a stress point. That was created by the pipe not expanding and contacting evenly due to a overtightened wrap..or banding ,This is just thought .I never tried the wrapping before ,but do like the look...

Can't recall how many miles were on mine when I did my pipes...
At the end of the 09 season my 08 has 25,800 miles on it.
I'm pretty sure my pipes have been wrapped for at least half of those miles.

No cracks.

When I made my exhaust, I painted them with high temp paint, wrapped them and then applied a generous amount of high temp Teflon paint on top of the wrap.
