I have reached a conclusion after all the discussions:
1. No need to change drag pipes for VH
2. Try torque cones to see if it helps....low budget experiment
3. Tune the bike up.
Nobody suggested baffles to improve performance

I have an 06 883L with SE II slip ons. I didn't like the sound. Very much like stock. I gutted the baffles, added torque cones. Way too loud on the high pitch side of things. Killed my right ear. Bought a set of DK Customs Thunder Torque Inserts the W 158. Performance is great and the sound has a lot deeper tone. They are perfect for my taste and didn't cost an arm and a leg. Around $50 total for the cones and the TTIs. Tuned the carb and away we go !!!
Run some quarter inch bolts threw the end of your drag pipes. Will do the same as any tq cone or baffle, cost is a few pennies. I have a Dyno sheet buried somewhere that has drag pipes with and without bolts.
How do you feel your bikes performance now? is it similar vs the baffled version? Did you tried without Thunder Torques to see the difference?
I had the torque cones in without the TTI (s) for some time and the performance was good without the baffles. I felt as though the addition of the TTI (s) gave it just a little more punch and really tuned the sound to a place that got rid of the high pitch that killed my ears and gave it a lower sounding rumble. It has been a great combo for me. And inexpensive.
