OK..I have a 2013 '72 and I plan to get the V&H shortshots, PCV, intake. In the near future I plan on getting it 1250cc big bore kit (or similiar), cams, lifters, etc. My question is..how good is the Arlen Ness Stage 2 Billet Sucker compared to the SE Heavy Breather. The reason I ask is because I think the Ness would compliment the 72's look better than the SE.
Both are high flow air cleaners and should flow an adequate amount of air for a mild 1250 conversion. How much horse power do you plan on having? If you're going for 90+ HP you may want to consider Hammer's 3" Air Hammer. http://hammerperf.com/xlaircleaners.shtml

been a few years since i bought my ness sucker, but my recollection is that they come "open" so that the air cleaner is open to rain. i customized the cover so i might have restricted my intake a bit, but i sure cant tell from the way this bad boy performs! (big sucker, v&h straightshots and techlusion tuner make up the ins and outs of the air on my ride)
my goal was performance combined with looks... and this is the looks i was after:
Beer..I looked into the hammer intake. Not sure how I feel about the engraved logo on the cover, but looks like a bad *** intake.
Wanabe..loving the looks of the intake! Nice job. Also, I didn't think about the fact that is "open" until you mentioned it. I went into their website and found that they do carry a rain sock for it.

Looks like I might get the Ness...
You can have anything you want engraved on it. Just send a high resolution black & white image to Hammer. Or, you can get it blank like mine below:

Interesting. I guess I missed that part when I was reading through. I don't see a rain sock though. I ride this thing rain, snow, hurricane, or apocalypse...
