Default Installing intergrated tail light, advice needed.

So im going to be installing a LED turn signal intergrated tail light, this one to be exact on my 05 sporty

http://www.ebay.com/itm/330807120503...84.m1497.l2649

and i will be removing my Fender Support Cover which have the stock turn signals on them (so the only light on the rear end of the bike is the tail light). I have a couple questions, first what is the best way to remove these? Ive read that i may need to lift the rear end of the bike off the ground? Or can i just do one side at a time?

Also will i need new shorter bolts now that i will ditch the covers and just have the fender supports bare ? Thanks for any input, also if you have pictures of a bike running this same setup feel free to post them !

for what its worth I know some will say this is a dangerous mod and makes my bike less visible at night, but I want to give it a shot, can always put back the support cover with the turn signals. thanks

To get the strut covers off, you will need to take the shock's off the top mount. It is easiest to lift the bike so the rear tire barely comes off the ground to do this.
As for the bolts, the strut cover is thin metal, the same bolts should be fine.
Good luck

That light does not fit your bike, you can probably make it work but it could be hard with the tire on.

it say in the parts description

"2002-2010 XL (except 2007-2010 Nightster, 2009-2010 XL883N)"

my bike is a 2005 XL883L right? why would it not fit?

When I put in 883L It said not compatible. I was gonna say it will not fit. At the top of description are pull down boxes, when I put your bike in This part is not compatible with 2005 Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 Low . Popped up.

You do not need to take off the strut chrome cover. I just did mine and with the bike on the ground it was able to remove the turn signals, Turn signal bolt holds a plate that holds the tail light wire, you can leave it or remove it.

You also do not need to remove the shock. Click on the 04 sporty below my name and you can see the before and after where I relocated the turn signals.
