1 cup ofsugar in a gallon of water, will make the tires shiney and black and not "slick", works on the black body molding on the cage too.If you try this you are on yer own as far as the tires not being slick, that has been my experience anyway.

I just use the same stuff I use to wash the car, but I use a stiff-bristle brush on the tires and give 'em a good brushing with the soap. It gives 'em a nice natural black look.

PS: That sugar thing is pretty intriguing - anyone tries it, do post yer results!
The tire manufacturers suggest only soap and water due to the fact that a chemical is introduced into the rubber which protects against the sun etc. In fact, they claim that if anything else is applied it reduces the life of the tire
