Default Pinging?

I have a stock 2012 XL1200C best gas I can get around here is 91 octane. Every once in awhile if the temps are around 60 degrees it will get a very light ping after sitting at a stop light when I go to take off. I know they come lean from the factory just wondering if any one else has pinging some times? I think I may try xied14.

it should not ping in those conditions...if it pings a little at sixty degrees it will ping alot at 90...I recommend you take it back to the dealer and have them fix it before I put on xieds...

2W, don't be so quick on the clutch, the 1200C's are geared tall so require some gentle clutch action.

IMHO, they all ping a little bit at times. I would not worry about it. I run 91 octane and that is fine. Just remember, these sporty engines don't like rpm under 3000. So don't lug them, shift gears and use the tranny, don't whack the throttle below 3 grand, down shift and go. If its all the time, that's a different story. Pinging can come from not enough fuel or timing advanced to far.

Sounds like it needs to be checked over by the dealer. Any detonation is bad and should not go overlooked. As noted above, you could be advanced to far on timing all the way to extreme issues of heads or pistons that were oddly cast and might have some defect in the combustion chamber causing fuel to get trapped.
