I am possibly selling my current bike and looking to get a Sportster with the money i get. Trying to stick around the 2,500-3,000 range. I have found 2 Sportsters in my range, and i would like to hear peoples opinions on both. 1 has an r title and i am a little afraid of that due to how hard it might be to sell in the future.
The 89 will be a 4 speed,and the other bike was in a crash with possible title problems.
I would look around a little more,their are some good deals out their.

Since you haven't even sold your bike yet [what is it by the way - just curious as to what you're going to be coming from] you have time to look around at your leisure, which is always a better idea than making a quick and hasty decision that often leads to misery/getting hosed. Start looking in places other than Craigslist like local pennysaver types or even just around town in gas stations or peoples yards because you never knowwhat you mighthappen upon.
Example: I've heard through the grape vine that there's a late 90's Sportster that's been laying up against the side of a neighbors house [oh the horror, I hope it's at least got a cover on it!!] on my street for 3 years now and I keep on forgetting to stop by and ask about it...it might be a great deal, a diamond in the rough, a complete POS, or totally unavailable, but I'll never know unless I make the effort to ask...
I'm not familiar with an "r" title...is that what is known as a "salvage" or "cleared" title in your area? If so yeah, you might have a hard[er] time ridding yourself of it should you decide to sell at a later date. There's got to be clean title lower mileage bikes in your area that you can afford...if not, either start looking out of town or save up some more $coin$ for a bike that works for you. There's no sense in just "settling" for something that may cause you distress or make you unhappy. Not looking to rain on your parade but I've made some hasty decisions in my life that I regretted shortly thereafter, so I'm offering my old man [well, that's what my punk a$$ 20 yo son calls me anyway, LOL] advice to help prevent you from having to endure a similar experience.

Ditto's, I was looking for a late 90's or early 2000 that was in rough cosmetic condition but great mechanical shape that I could do some fluff work on. All of a sudden a 2005 Sporty Roadster came up for about the price of the one's needing work.
Check listings daily, have cash-in-hand and be ready to pounce quickly! IMO, stay away from iffy titles unless you are keeping the bike forever. Why take someone else's headache and put it on yourself.
When you have cash-in-hand, offer a lot less. You never know what someone will take to get some cash that day.........
FWIW, always buy with title in hand. I've seen a lot of deals go south quickly with a lien holder involved, just my opinion.
I would have to agree with the others, whatever bike you buy should have a good title to save yourself and down the road if you do sell it the next buyer any hassles. In this economy you should be able to find many bikes for sale, maybe you should take the time and look around, local news papers typically have a "for sale" section and there are Motorcycle Trader Magazines out there as well that cover a wider area than the local paper. I understand we are in the technology era but not everyone puts their used bike on a website. Take your time, sell your bike and have the cash in hand for when you do find that incredible buy as most sellers are not going to wait for you to sell your bike. Good Luck with your search.
Looks like it fits all your criteria and a nice looking ride. I would lowball him over the salvage title.......If you decide to go this route, make sure it passes PA inspection and check with you local DMV to make sure the title is not an issue before committing to the purchase. If the seller objects to any of those request I'd run away............
I just looked at "our" area listings there neighbor, and found a few decent ones at the $3500 price range. There were some ~'01s 1200's with 2up seats/pipes/windshield/etc to '04-'06 883's with some accessories. Just gotta look and decide which speaks to you. The pre-'04's are solid mount engines, and the '04 & later will be rubber mounted engines. Some will say the rubber mounted have less vibrations, but I haven't seen or felt that much of a difference. It will really depend on what bike you're coming from & how much you're willing to spend.
I have patience and i will probably just hold off. Right now i have 2 bikes, i have an 07 Shadow 750 and the bike i was wanting to sell is an 01 CBR 600 f4i. I think i might end up just keeping my CBR for the time being. A friend of mine told me that if i still have the CBR when he gets out of the Army in 2014 he will buy it. So we will see.
