Thinking about replacing the spoke rear wheel on my wife's '05 XL883 with a good condition slotted mag or solid wheel for a tubeless tire. Is there a direct bolt on wheel option which does not involve a bunch of other modifications (spacers, bearings, etc.)?

The '05 XLC's come with a mag, and the proper size bearings (1")
Earlier models have 3/4" bearings, and later models ('07 on I believe) have 25mm bearings... not sure about '06. The different size bearings are all interchangeable, but you will need to bore out earlier hubs to accept the 1" spacer.
Some of the BT mags are a direct fit also, but you'll have to do the research too find the proper ones. I'm doing the same swap, but going from mag to spoke, and it was difficult to find the right hub for an '05 without paying full stealer price.
If anyone has an '05 - '07 XL solid rear mag wheel and want's to trade for a spoked one, please drop me a PM. I'm looking to make the change in April when new tires will be in the works.

I will swap you but you have to wait until my other wheel gets here,I have a new set of spokes inbound and will have to wait for my next payday and a non snowing day to get it into the shop to get swapped out. Won't mind having an extra full set of spokes around.
