I sat on a sportster with 12in ape bars the other day and now im thinking maybe some for my sportster iron. Just wondering what sort of job it is to fit them? do i need new wiring and cables etc???
Cheers
There's plenty of post on it and some good you tube vid's. I put 14" and used burley's 14 " cable kit. I think there 12" kit would look cleaner. I have too much cable sticking out. But I do like my ape's. Good luck.
The Burly kit is great IMO. Don't forget the possiblity of riders for the look you are going for or whatever clearance you may need/want. As stayed above, some don't like the extra inch or so of "slack" but it cN be re routed or great for one-two inch risers. Cheers
I went from 12s to 16s with 2" risers. Very comfortable ride. Wouldn't go back for anything. $5.00 used clutch cable at an indie garage. A longer brake cable from a friend of mine. I made the wire extensions myself. Oh yeah, the flat black powder-coated apes were given to me by another bud. It was fun puttin em on and was, at least for me, virtually free. Go for it !!!
i put some 12" Biltwell narrow apes on my iron. liked them as they were narrow at the bottom where the bolt to the tree. some apes are too wide at the bottom for the narrow glide front end of the iron in my opinion.
went with the burly 12" cable kit. easy to fit just time consuming - heres a vid i used to help and im not very mechanical at all. i did find the burly clutch cable a lot more effort than the standard one though. perhaps it was me and i didnt do it right :-)
