Default Vac vs Gravity Petcocks

I searched but didn't find anything, so please help me out here. I've got a '99 Sporty that's got some mods and I have a '94 peanut tank for it. Do I need the vacuum actuated petcock or can I just use an old school gravity petcock? I know the '99 had an OEM vacuum petcock, but not sure why? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated

Should work fine, gravity has been around a lot longer than vacuum. Just make sure you cap off the open vacuum port so the VOES still functions properly. Just have to remember to turn it on and off, pretty simple for most humans.

The vac only opens the petcock for fuel flow. It has nothing to with delivery in a sense.

If you don't have suction on the valve port it won't open and allow fuel to gravity feed to the carb

That's what I figured, so like Big John said above it's not needed if you just remember to turn off your fuel. The problem I've run into with vac assisted petcocks is the diaphragms eventually always give me trouble. Eliminating that from the equation with a plain ole gravity petcock should always work as long as I remember to turn it on
