I want to replace my side covers with the hd chrome side covers for the oil tank and batt, do they replace the original covers or are they stick ons that just cover the old units ? i have an 06, 883.Thanks........
My battery (left side) is a replacement for the original, I am not sure about the Oil Tank side, never tried to remove it. The covers were already on it when I got the bike....
I could be wrong here but I think the chrome oil tankcover just goes over the orig. black tank(on my '03 anyway) and the battery chrome cover just goes over the bare battery (which in my case doesn't have a cover at all). It hasjust the battery strap and a black cover that goes on the top.
I just replaced both covers (not shown in picture) with painted ones to match the tank & fenders. Ordered from Chicago HD. They were full replacement covers. Easy to install.
Sounds like they are replacements, better that stick ons ! I am going to pick up a set soon i just have to figure out where to get them from the stealer wants like $100 per side ! PS: check out my new post with pic of my new tank and fenders on ....Thanks for the info...
Dan, it appears on the year of the bike. 04+ the covers on both sides get completely replaced, not covered. On 03-, the battery cover is a cover, the oil tank cover isa cover, and the ignition cover is a replacement.
Dan, they are full covers. But you might want to do a search for some better prices. A year ago when I got both sides for my 06 it was $130 for both. Ifyour dealeris wanting $100 apiece then I think you can find a better price elsewhere. Ebay, Zanotti's, etc...
