Default Nightster Bobber project value?

Hey guys I'm looking for a bit of advice here. I've been working on cars for quite a while, but I'm relatively new to bikes and looking to pick up a project. I found this one on the internet and its close to the style I'm going for, I would just like a second opinion on what its worth. If you guys could help me out with some opinions on the bike as well as value it would be greatly appreciated!!

I copied the ad below. I emailed him a bit, and my main concern is that th Speedo and its wiring is gone. I would like to have a speedo... are they pretty difficult to find used?

stolen??? Hopefully everything matches the title. Big red flag to me if the odo is missing, sounds like a chopped project to me. wouldn't touch it with a 10ft. pole.

The bike is actually being sold through a small shop in Milwaukee. He rode the bike for about 1500mi as is. He just removed the speedo when he switched bars is what it sounds like. I just don't know how complicated the harness is on these bikes. It sounds like he actually eliminated the wiring for the speedo... not just unplugged it.

well hopefully nobody here would buy a car with a missing o.d.o
Not too many honest people in this world. Assuming nothing is stolen, i would say i would accept no less than $5800

buy a new one or a dakota dig. and new wiring if thats the case and call it a day. Looks good, if its sold by a shop have them do the maintenace first, i would like to have a O.D.O just make sure there are no engine codes being thrown. Without it your riding on the word of the seller.

I wasn't aware the Diagnostics port was looped through the ODO. That never occured to me that I wouldn't be able to check codes....

You realize that the frame has been chopped? With the rear frame struts cut off you cannot mount a bigger fender like a stock one nor can you add a seat for two up riding without finding another frame to chop up for the struts or fabricating struts.

Personally, Iwould walk away from this bike unless you plan on leaving things the way they are. From experience, most people don't want a bike with a chopped up frame...very limited people it appeals to so harder to sell...

Yes I was aware of this. I had planned on just fabbing mounts for a really short fender, definitely not passenger supporting.

Regardless, all things considered I'm going to pass on this one. After e-mailing the guy and getting more details it seems like it was a poorly executed build. Id rather have more time to work on my cars than re-do half the mods he did. I'm going to look for a better, less hacked bike to start with.

Thanks for the input guys!
