Default new 48 owner - Mod question

I've got ~300 miles on my new 48 now and obviously, I'm in love.

I had some V&H StraightShot slipon's installed by the dealer before pickup and I'm thinking about picking up a DKcustoms Air Cleaner system. Is tuning (power commander, fuelpak, ect..) 100% necessary or is that just to maximize power gains?

Also, are xied's worth the money? what is the purpose of the bike running a bit cooler than stock?

yes you absolutely need it 100% Unless you want to put your engine to sh&#&&t lol. I have Xieds and love them that is the cheapest route.. I have them for now until i can gather up some extra money to actually tune it. There are plenty of threads here on the HDforum that tells you this. GOOGLE is your biggest help, use it. You can run your exhaust without using anything but once you throw on an intake you will 100% need to buy Xieds or the more expensive stuff.

Good luck!

If your in the market for a tuner, I highly recommend the power vision from Jamie at fuel moto. He has great customer service and will help map your future mods. Also if you change to a another Harley in the far future, you can buy another license and tune the new bike. The system is pricey upfront, but easy to use and works great for my shortshots.

You already have free flowing exhaust, if you add a free flowing air cleaner, then you will need to adjust the tune...either with a full tuner for a cost of 300-500 or with an XiED for a cost of 100.

The reason is that the bikes come from the factory with an EPA mandated lean tune, and even stock they will run better and cooler with a tuner or XiED.

Once you open up the intake and exhaust, then they will be even leaner, and performance will drop and excessive heat will decrease the longevity of the engine.

Whether it is "worth it" to spend $100 for XiED's or $500 for a full tuner, only you can answer that.

XiED's will give you about 90% of what a tuner will give you in benefits, but only costs 20% as much $.

Some guys don't want to leave that last 10% on the table and it is worth it to spend an extra $400 to get all available improvement.

I personally have a sporty that I have been 100% happy with the XiED product.

I also have a 103 that I want to get every last bit of available performance out of and on the bike I spent the extra $ for a full tuner.

Click HERE for more info on the XiED, including the list of benefits beyond just running cooler.

Awesome. I'll be in contact when I'm ready to order the AC and I think Xieds are for me. Thank you
