Hey guys, here's the run down I recently installed a cycle shack slip ons and the x14ied. Ran great but the engine was so hot in the afternoons when its 70+ out and your sitting at an intersection. So I decided to order a dk customs 425 ac. Installed it this morning, took the bike to work. There was some popping on decel when i first left the house (engine wasnt warmed up yet) after a few miles it seemed to get better but there was still a very slight popping.
Would you guys recommend? going to a xied or vied? I want a power vision but my wife will kill me if I spend 500 bucks right now
I had the same issue. I ended up buying a Power Vision though and it worked great. I'm not sure if buying xied or vied would help enough to warrant the cost. That's money you could put towards a Power Vision.
The 2012-13 XL's , especially the 883, seem to do a bit better with the XIED's.
HD has changed the fuel maps due to emissions regulations. This has resulted in the 2012-Up sportsters really liking the extra 2% fuel the XIED provides over the X14iED.
Not that any of the 2012-Up XL's will run bad with the X14's, they just respond better to the slightly richer XiED's.
I plugged the plugs and they do not look good. Deff running lean. I pulled the fuse to reset the bike and maybe the ecm will adjust itself. If not I'll see if I can return the x14 and get the xied. I asked nightrider and he said the x14 was better for the iron but perhaps I need the extra 2% with the ac. I'll take it to work tomorrow and see how it goes.
I think when you talked to nightrider he may have misunderstood you. The 2012+ Sportys definitely do better with the XiED's than the X14's.
With the cycle shacks you may have some decel pop no matter what, they are a pretty open pipe.
You can try the Thunder Torque Inserts, they may reduce/eliminate the pop, but they will definitely increase your low and mid range power, so at $25 they'd be worth it anyway.
Update: took it to work this morning, 8 mile ride and I can tell its running better already, i guess pulling the fuse worked. very minimal popping, throttle response is better, engine is cooler. I will see how it goes, I really want the power vision tuner so I may buy one in the next few weeks...
