Default stator or regulator or none, help!

Hey all, need some help here.

Story goes, tried to start my bike and found out battery was dead, did a jump start and rode about 10 miles to the workshop before it died and wouldn't start, luckily the workshop was nearby.

Changed to a brand new battery and the mech told me that the stator was spoiled as the voltage didn't go back to normal after he did some tests like turning on the high beam or pressing the horn. Rode the bike back though and the power felt the best in this 2 years I rode it.

Ordered a stator anyway and when I was home just now I tested my bike by revving it on neutral, head light does get slightly brighter, didn't rev too high as it was at night. Called my mech, he said that its because of my new battery, his positive that my stator is spoiled.

Any ideas to further check it? I want to determine the root of the problem before I change the stator.

FYI, I don't have any volt reader or anything with me but I could do it at the workshop.

You do need a multi-meter to do any useful testing. Plenty of info about testing the charging system in the stickys of the DIY Electrical section on HDF.

if my stator or regulator is fried, would my light still become brighter when I rev it?

And i'm running on a new battery and a fried stator or regulator, would I feel more power? Wouldn't the battery just get drained faster and faster and I lose the power?

Thanks for the help

Go read the charging system diagnostic test that Dr. Hess published in the sticky... It'll tell you exactly what to look for, and what part's bad if you don't get the expected results.

Read post #2, I said DIY section! Here. There are three stickys to read that should help you diagnose your problem. There is no simple diagnosis that will identify which has failed, the battery may get no charge or too much, very little charge......
