I have a 1995 sportster 1200 stock wheel size. My speedo went nuts the other day, bouncing all over the place. Now it only climbs to 35 mph. The odometer is counting 6 10ths /mile for every 2 10th I drive. At first I thought the speed sensor was dirty/bad. Cleaned first then replaced with a new one. Blinker module cancels lights ( fast due to the speedo problem ? ) Do I need a new speedo ? Took off back to check wiring (looks ok ).
Today I was driving home and the speed o dropped to 20 mph and odometer read 6400094 miles. By the time I got home it went back to 9042 miles. Ant ideas on this one? Anyone want to sell a speedo if it is that?
if it has a speedometer cable (not electronic) the cable is probably bad or the hub for it on the front wheel...if you remove the cable from the back of the speedo you can pull the cable out of the sheath, it should come out in one long piece, if a short piece comes out you know the problem....****, I can't remember, you may have to pull it out from the bottom by the wheel...either way it should come out in one long piece...
