I have a 2007 XL1200N. I use it 3-4 days of my work commute. This morning, I turned the key and switched the power on, all the lights and my N light turned on as expected. As I pushed the ignition, it tried to cranked over real quick then everything died. No lights or anything. Is this a blown fuse? What may have caused this? Sitting at work now (had to take the car) and not being able to check on it is driving me crazy!
That is exactly what happened to me 2 months ago. Had a short-to-ground. Replaced a bunch of stuff, re-wired parts of the harness that i found were cut, replaced all my fuses and relays, and bought a new battery to fix mine. Lots of stuff I had to do was because i took the bike to the wrong people (2-3 people actually before it got harness fixed).
I'd say check your ignition switch, all your fuses and relays, and your battery, plus your charging system. If you don't have a short-to-ground somewhere then it should be one of those things i'd think. Hopefully my two months of frustration can help you fix yours in FAR less time. :-)
I learned most of all that stuff from a member here called cHarley. Hopefully he will chime in and perhaps have a better idea, or atleast a more precise one. :-)
My 1200C is an '07 as well. Pray you don't have a short-to-ground. our wiring harness is pure Spagetti.

check the battery connections first. sounds like a loose connection to me. follow the neg cable from the battery to where it grounds on the motor and make sure it hasn't loosened up at the motor connection also.
Iron has it just right, quite often a poor battery connection will mimic a dead battery. I clean my connections now and then and coat the contact areas with High Dialectric Grease. It keeps air out of the connections and corrosion cannot happen. Another problem with a poor connection is that the charging system cannot read the battery voltage and over charges.
I'm with Iron and 12KCDriver. Check the battery cables at both ends. My Sporty did the same thing when I had a loose connection with the negative cable at the motor, not the battery.
you might have a bad relay also. have you ever checked them for corrossion? this year of bike has a design flaw where water flows through the fuse block. i carry 2 extra ones with me at all times.

Point go to Iron on this one. Loose battery connection on the negative cable. Since the negative side was hard to see, I turned on the power and jiggled the cable to see if the light come on and they did. I tightened the screw and everything is A-OK.
