I have only ever ran one set of stock Harley tires and it was a horrible experience. Almost any tire is better than stock tires.
If the OP runs them tires at the right psi there is no way they will be changing tires before the reccomended OCI. If someone only got 3300 miles from a tire it was not the tire that failed. It was operator error.
I installed a set of Me880's just recently, can someone explain "proper tire inflation procedures"? I ride solo & light most of the time on my 05 883 sportster.

I have the ME 880's on my '05 XL1200r and keep the tires at the recommended psi both front and rear (30F/36R). I ride solo almost 100% of the time.

The Metzler recommended pressures for the ME88x tires on a Sporty are:
Solo Rear 40
Solo Front 38
2up Rear 42
2up Front 40
Running tires below the recommended pressures will decrease tire life.
Most aftermarket tires are designed to run at pressures higher than the stock Dunflops. Tire pressures listed in the Owners manual are applicable only to the stock tires that came on the bike.
If you run the proper tire pressure for the tire it will last a lot longer than 3300 miles. I get about 9000 out of a rear Metzeler on mY Dyna. Run 42 psi rear, 40 psi front. Stock tires come off as soon as I get a bike home that has them. Straight to the trash can.
Are the ME 880 s better than the michelin commander II everyone is talking about?
The Michelin Commander II is a great tire. I have a set on my Ultra Classic. They perform and are holding up well after 12,000 miles. I have been running the Metz 880 on my Sporty for years and about 75,000 miles. I will continue to put the Metz tire on my Sporty. If you want to try the Michelin Commander II, give it a try. I can say it's a very good tire on my Ultra.
