Default Engine misfire in rain

Hi,just joined forum.picked up a 2012 "72" and rode it home in heavy rain, the bike kept spluttering and cutting out had to stop on the freeway at one point.when I got it home had a look at the Air cleaner and noticed the the intake hole at the front directs the air flow (and rain) straight into the filter which sound like a recipe for disaster,(I had previous bike with Kuryakin air cleaner and this did the same in the wet.Is there a solution to this?

You only suspect that it was rain in your intake.

I would be looking at the battery connections, plug to coil connections, coil to rest of bike connections, check fuse box for water, etc....

A lot of people ride in rain with "open element" air cleaners and having the motor flooded by water is very rare except in the worst of heavy rain storms.

I'd be more prone to suspect a wet electrical system first, particularly the plug wire connections. You can pick up a tube of dielectric grease at almost any parts store. Use it to coat the connections of both ends of the plug wires and see if that doesn't help. And while you're at it, coat every other electrical connection you can get to, especially the battery cable connections.
