I have a 2007 1200 Low and my low beam stopped working. At first I was able to move the wiring harness on the left side at the front of the tank and it would come on (with the aftermarket running lights on the crash bar) and I could hear a relay click under the seat. I thought it was a bad wire in the harness, but now I can't get it to come on at all even moving the harness. I've checked inside the headlight and everything's good there. I'm hoping someone has encountered this and can help, as funds are tight and I really don't want to take it to the shop. For now I'll be riding with my high beam on, cuz if I don't ride, I go crazy.
Hi Jim and welcome to HDF from the UK. I suggest that everything is not good, otherwise your headlight would work fine! Chasing down these sorts of problem can be a real pain and require patience and determination. They are also often mechanical, in other words a poor connector, damage to a wire, defective switch, even a defective bulb.
So start by removing the bulb and checking that both elements work. You can test that simply by using the battery and additional wires, but take care to avoid causing a short-circuit! Refit the bulb and try bypassing parts of the wiring with an additional length of wire, to see if the bulb will come on. That should help you identify where you have a problem.
On the other hand don't spend too long messing with this! If you can't make any headway solving the problem then call in skilled help! No point having a bike and not being able to ride it.
