Default No headlight

Having an issue with my cousin's bike, the headlight quit working at some point and I can not figure out the issue, I know its never 100% but I did check the resistance through the bulb and it came back as 0 ohms, and the filemant looks perfect so I am assuming its not the bulb, I would go just buy one but the dealer is about 30 minutes away and I don't have the time with my work schedule, the fuse is good, I was never the greatest with electrical but I have traced the wiring down to a white, yellow, and blue wire, the way it looks is that I should have power to the blue wire with the key on but I did not get a steady reading of any sorts and the resistance from the battery to the blue wire at the switch is infinite...anyone want to give me a suggestion on where to go here? what tests I should be doing or what ones I was doing incorrectly?

btw its an 02 nighttrain

Trace the wire back to the source and ensure there are no loose connections. If you don't find any, use dielectric grease in the connectors.

You've already done the first two steps. Checking the bulb and the fuse.

Definitely try a new bulb. I had a brake light go out. I looked at the bulb and both filaments appeared intact. Bought a new bulb and it worked fine. I'm also pretty sure that your multimeter shouldn't be reading 0 ohms when testing the bulb. It should show some kind of actual reading, .5 ohms for example or else it would be indicating that the circuit is open. For example in my job if I test a wire reel and the mulitmeter reads 0 ohms then that means I have a break in the wire somewhere.

Its not a special bulb anyways. Just go to your local pepboys/autozone/Napa/checkers etc.. and get a 9003 H4 bulb and give it a try.

Actually a break in the wire would indicate ∞ ohms. 0 ohms indicates a direct short.

AJackson, I think that you have a standard halogen H4 bulb on that model. If you are going to buy a bulb to try, go to Wally and buy a Sylvania Clearvision, it is a good upgrade and avail in a single pack.

Is the engine running? Most bikes have a relay that will not turn on the headlight till the engine is running to avoid draining the battery.
