I have been reading on here about my sportster and found info on gearing changes. I wanted to lower RPMs at highway speeds so I ordered a 29T pulley, 27T is stock. (2003 883C) I ordered the part # 40409-04 from Zanotti and it finally came. IT DONT FIT.
It is completely wrong, the shoulder that keeps the belt on is on the opposite side. I dont know how to explain that with out some kind of drawing. It is also quite a bit thicker (maybe .250) and doesnt allow cover to go back on.
No Shop can tell me a part number because when they look it up all that comes up is the stock 27T pulley.
I know there is someone here who will know what I need. 2003 883 Custom.
I appreciate any help.
PS. I have a brand new 40409-04 pulley if someone needs one I would rather make a deal for you than bother returning it to Zanotti.
Got the 2003 1200 pulley (29 tooth) took my original with to make sure it was right. Put it on with no problem and the stock belt is more than enough. I bet I could go 1 or 2 more. But it is good enough now at highway speeds.
What a difference it made in the bike.
I know it probably wouldnt do as well in the 1/4 mile but it makes the bike feel faster because you dont have to shift so soon and it lets it rev out a little farther each gear. I like it much better than stock.
