Default Shifter Gap

Been riding before as an immortal and lucky teen and 20 something. Now I have family and career and want to wear protection when I ride. Purchased a pair of riding boots and hopped on my new XL1200Custom with forwards. Problem - boot is tough to fit under shifter without some concentration and effort. Is there a way to adjust the shifter to allow more gap between the peg and shifter to allow a bit more room?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

Auto, thanks, I kept looking at the situation trying to figure it out. Sometimes you just gotta stare the problem down. Thankfully I can go to the forum and get experience that i don't have. I appreciate the help. Fist pump and a beer on me.
